Addressing attendees at the 'Constitution and National Unity Convention-2024', former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah reiterated Kashmir's enduring affiliation with India, emphasizing unity amidst constitutional concerns. Asserting that "Kashmir is a part of India, has been a part of India, and will remain a part of India," Abdullah stressed the importance of safeguarding diversity to strengthen the nation. He urged collective action to confront challenges and thwart divisive forces, emphasizing religious harmony as a unifying force.
Expressing apprehensions over the integrity of the Constitution and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Abdullah cautioned against complacency, warning of potential regrets akin to those surrounding EVM usage. He called upon the Election Commission to ensure transparent elections, echoing sentiments for preserving constitutional values and upholding democratic principles. Meanwhile, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury criticized attempts to undermine India's secular democracy, cautioning against regressive shifts and advocating for collective resistance to safeguard the nation's ethos.
